Momentum. One of life's most powerful tools, that radically boosts productivity and cripples procrastination. Here's why it's so important, and how you can leverage it.
In my opinion, momentum is one of your absolute greatest natural resources, and it's also underrated. With momentum on your side, you will smash through walls and your productivity will be at an all time high. Here's why:
It Has a Snowball Effect
Have you ever noticed that when you clean your desk, you also clean your room, and then your car? This happens to me all the time. I'll send an e-mail, then do something else, and another, and before I know it I'm half way through my to do list for the day. On that note, you should also have a to do list for the day so you can be continuously be smashing through it with your new found secret weapon.
It's Easy to Maintain
Once your momentum begins, it flows naturally and you will keep working without feeling like you're working hard. Newton's first law of motion states that ' An object in motion stays in motion' and this is directly related to this topic. This leads to my next point...
How to Get It Started: The 2 Minute Rule.
This is the hardest part. The good news, is that it's easy! I'm about to share with you a simple tool that if you haven't already heard of, will change your life. For real. It's called the 2 Minute Rule. Here it is
Part One: If it takes less than 2 minutes, do it now.
It's crazy how much people procrastinate about things that would take 120 seconds or less. If it's a super simple task like taking out the rubbish, washing the dishes, sending an e-mail, sharing a post etc... Just do it now! And then it's done! BAM!
Part Two: It if takes more than 2 minutes, do it for 2 minutes and momentum will carry you.
Obviously a lot of things take longer than 2 minutes to finish. But if you start for 2 minutes, you'll keep going and then momentum is on your side already. Need to write a blog? Write for 2 minutes, and you'll end up writing for an hour. Need to work out? Do push ups for 2 minutes, and you'll end up doing a full workout. Even if you need to tackle a big project, just GET STARTED for two minutes and you're on your way!
It Destroys Procrastination
Momentum is the enemy of procrastination, and we are on their team! By progressively working and getting things done, you will be achieving more, in less time than ever before. I'm excited for you to try it because I know it's going to work!
It Can Become a Habit
Once you get in the 'just get started' mindset, your productivity will soar, and you will get so much done you'll amaze yourself. By continuously applying the 2 minute rule and leveraging your momentum in your everyday life, it will eventually become a habit, and then you will become a productivity machine. Just try it for a few days, and before you know it you'll be killing it every day.
Do not underestimate the power of momentum! Create your to do list, use the 2 minute rule, get started and watch the results unfold right in front of your eyes. Enjoy!
