7 New Year's Resolutions to Make in 2016

New year.jpg

Happy new year! As we enter 2016, it's a great time to have a fresh start. Here are some changes you can make that will rapidly increase the quality of your life.

Save More Money

Saving money is something that everybody says they will do, but they give in to too many temptations. I've always saved money ever since I was young, and it has been one of the most useful things I have ever done. Having money available for things you want or need to do just gives you such a better peace of mind and sense of freedom, and also a lot more opportunity. You also just generally feel better, knowing you're not wasting hard earned cash on pointless things.

Work Out More

Working out regularly is SO good for your health. It boosts your immune system, it gives you way more energy, helps you sleep better, reduces stress, boosts your confidence and it makes you happy. How's that for an epic list of reasons to do it? But this one is tricky because people approach it like they are forcing themselves to do it, or sacrificing something to make it happen. You cannot maintain motivation with this 'push' approach. A good goal needs to 'pull' you towards it. I'm about to fix this for you with three pieces of advice:

1) Instead of thinking about how much it will suck, think about how much better you will look and feel. You'll notice after your first workout how good you feel, just try it!

2) Start small. It's very difficult to have a solid plan and routine for working out like a pro. The good news is you don't have to have a hardcore, in depth schedule and workout plan, all you have to do is START with some exercise. Go for a jog, do some push ups, workout with a friend. There's a great app called the '7 Minute Workout' which requires no equipment, you can do it pretty much anywhere and it only takes 7 minutes. #Convenient

3) Get a hobby that requires exercise. When you're having fun you don't even realise how much exercise you're realIy getting because you're enjoying it. I personally play basketball a lot and it's a great workout, just like soccer, tennis, touch football, skating... most sports! It's also a great way to meet new people - so get out there!

Eat Healthier

Another lifestyle choice that will make you feel so much better. Not only will you avoid sickness you'll actually feel healthy and active. First of all, cut down on sugar and fatty junk foods that do nothing but make you feel fat and lethargic. That short sugar high isn't worth the aftermath! Secondly don't try go to crazy and become a health freak -  That's just as hard as working out like a pro from day one. Just eat more vegetables, more fruit, less junk, drink more water, and stop buying bad food. If it sits in your fridge you'll eat it eventually - just get it out of there!

People complicate life too much. Our core needs are very basic. Eat healthy food and you'll stay healthier. Burn more calories than you eat and you'll lose weight. Work out and you'll grow muscles. Hustle hard and you'll be successful! It's so simple!

Stop Bad Habits

As soon as you read this you know what your habit was! Whether it's smoking, eating bad food, partying too much, wasting money, whatever, now is the time to put your foot down and stop. Honestly, it's worth it.

Traveling opens up your perspective in ways you've never imagined. It takes you out of your comfort zone, and if you never take risks you can never discover your true self. You will also have a greater appreciation for life and people as you see the world. Go somewhere new, experience the culture, figure out how to navigate your way around, meet unique people, taste native food, do it all... you won't regret it.

Spending money on material things can be wasteful. Spending money on experiences and memories are infinitely valuable. You create memories you will carry with you forever.

The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.

Learn Something New

This is a must! Learning new skills is SO good for your brain, and no matter what it is that you're learning, it activates your brain and makes you smarter. Particular skills that are especially good for your brain are reading, learning a new language, playing and instrument and playing a sport.

I recommend checking out Udemy which offers thousands of great courses on a variety of topics. If you want to learn a language, check out DuoLingo which is an awesome app for training you on how to speak a range of languages, from beginner to advanced in a fun, easy to use platform.

Stop Complaining

Last but not least... Stop complaining. Seriously. There is too much of this in the world, especially when it almost entirely comes from people that have no reason to. You have a house, you have family, you have clothes and food to eat, you even have the luxury of being able to drink the tap water. You can even change the temperature of your shower water which you can drink too! You are statistically richer than 75% of the world. What are you complaining about??? Life is what you make it!

Make productive new year's resolutions and make 2016 the best year yet!
